Get Organized in GO Month

If you didn’t know it, January is GO Month, or Get Organizied Month sponsored by the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO)

What does this mean?

What are you supposed to do?

What’s happening!?

Don’t worry. There are no cards to buy and send, no presents to give, and no flags to fly. It is our way, or NAPO’s way, of getting people aware of the resources available to help get lives, or rooms, or computers running a little bit more efficient.

Yes, organizing can be very overwhelming and dishearting when you look into “that” room, or “that” anything and all you can see is stuff. You can’t see a bed or a desk, or maybe even the floor, and it makes you just want to shut the door, lie down in another room and get to it later.

The hardest part is starting. Where do you begin when there is no official starting point?

Organizers are there to help facilitate the descision making, coming up with ideas and ways to get things organized. They also will give you the tools to be able to keep what you have worked on organized.

There are many local NAPO chapters around the country, and they all have activities this month to help. Google searching NAPO with your city will help you locate your local chapter’s website. From there you should be able to find out what they’re doing for GO Month, and how you can take advantage of it.

In Houston, we’re working with Ikea the last weekend of the month. There’ll be presentations, demonstrations and different vedors in the parking lot for paper shredding, and e-cycling.

If you’re in the area, make sure to come by on Saturday, January 25, 2014 – we’ll be there just about all day. I’ll be speaking at 2:00PM on “Heaven, Hell or Purgatory; Where do you keep your things?” If you have any questions before the event, give me a call at 713-304-5355.

As long as Hallmark doesn’t get a hold of GO Month, we will have no cards to worry about!
